Nancy Linnon

I have been teaching writing and facilitating groups for almost thirty years. I’ve published in several literary journals and magazines and began my career as a journalist for U.S. News & World Report. I hold a master’s in teaching from Brown University and an MFA in creative writing from Antioch University.

More recently, I travelled to Ireland study as an end-of-life doula—someone who accompanies a person on their journey with death. I also obtained my doula certification through the International End-Of-Life Doula Association (INELDA). Many people have remarked that this work is a departure from teaching writing, but I see an organic throughline: Death is a part of life waiting to be known—as are the multitude of stories within us.

Philosophy

I  believe you have to write to figure out what you have to say—as opposed to knowing what you have to say and writing it down. This approach makes writing a tool for thinking and discovering that results in clear, authentic expression and a deeper connection to self. Whether you want to publish your writing or use writing to improve your well-being, this philosophy is useful.

Approach

I hope this website provides an introduction to me and my work, but a conversation works best for answering specific questions and figuring out how working together might be a fit. Please contact me and we can set up a time to talk.
